At first I thought what a child. But then I realised that the reaction of European leaders is the same.
The refusal to stand on their own feet.
On the one side, I understand the american anger. What would be the reaction in Europe if
for example we would keep European military forces for more then 80 years in the US, after helping them to fight a possible agressor ?
The ambivalent attitude of Trump leads to contradictions for the European leaders. How to respond ?
What is the answer ?
The aggravating energy can be replaced by energy to act independently.
This positive energy can be shaped by trying to create an independent defense Union.
And I think that the vision of the creator of the EU Monnet, our réal father, can help us to find a new way.
A joint Defense Union, like the internal market ánd the EMU, will be móre than the addition
sum of all national expenditures.
This week the need to think European in framing a Defense Union yet another time is endorsed in this article in the NRC. The tendency to look to national providers of defense equipment leads to huge waste of money. And cost ineffectiveness.
The quintessence is an idea. It starts with a moral. That shapes the way we think and build our future.
I propose that the European leaders go to the place where Monnet lived for most of his life.

Somewhere in that area there is a chapel – I couldn’t find it now anymore, but a person more interested can definitely find it- where you can see his moral backgrounds. He was a deeply religious person.
